SEPTEMBER in the GARDEN

As Summer fades and Autumn moves in, now is the perfect time to clear out the greenhouse – a job that you have been putting off for ages! Once it has been cleared and sorted you will have room to store those plants that need to come in during the cold Winter months

Now is also the time to plant your spring flowering bulbs and replant the ones that were lifted in the Spring - disguarding any that are soft or shriveled. As a rough guide, plant at a depth of 3 times the width of the bulb. Any potted trees you have can now be planted out.

Your lawn will now need cutting less frequently and the blades should be raised for a slightly higher cut. Repair bare patches in the lawn with an equal mix of compost and grass seed. You will now have to start clearing fallen leaves from your lawn, and if you have a pond, now is a good time to cover it with netting ready for the onslaught of falling leaves.

Continue to water and dead-head hanging baskets, pots and planters - but reduce feeding and collect and store seeds from plants, for sowing next year.
